What is Google’s SpamBrain? October 2023 Google Spam Update

Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Google launched a new update for spam detection systems that will enhance their coverage in multiple languages and spam categories.

Google is Already Working on Its Next Update to Further Safeguard The Search Experience.

This update is focused on addressing various types of spam that have been reported by their community members in Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Chinese, and other languages. Google’s aim is to significantly reduce the amount of visible spam in search results, particularly in cases of cloaking, hacked, auto-generated, and scraped spam. The rollout of this update will take a few weeks.

If your website experiences any changes following this spam update, we kindly request you review Google spam policies. More detailed information can be found on Google Search spam updates and Google site help page.

What is The Google Spam Update?

Google has specifically developed an algorithm to swiftly identify and eliminate spam websites from appearing in search results. This algorithm efficiently marks websites employing misleading tactics such as manipulative keywords, cloaking, hidden text, or excessive advertising.

Google has received this data from the community and the users who have gone out of their way to report spam. The valuable feedback they got on spam trends in various languages has been incredibly helpful in ensuring that prioritize and validate the best solutions.

Google constantly works to identify and prevent search spam using automated systems. Periodically, They enhance these systems to improve their efficiency, which we refer to as a spam update. We share information about these updates in Google Search ranking.

What is Google SpamBrain?

One of their spam prevention systems, SpamBrain, utilizes AI technology. Google regularly updates it to enhance its ability to identify spam and catch new forms of spam. In simpler terms: Google has fancy-named algorithms that rank web pages and sniff out spam. These algorithms learn from your website and improve with experience. If Google thinks your site is still spammy, it’ll keep punishing you. And because Google is always enhancing its spam-detection skills, you need to keep your SEO tactics up to date.

If a website experience changes in its ranking after a spam update, it is advisable to review its spam policies and ensure compliance. Failure to comply with these policies may result in lower search rankings or exclusion from search results. Making necessary changes, over a period of months, can help a website improve its ranking if its automated systems determine that it adheres to its spam policies.

However, in the case of a link spam update (specifically targeting spammy links), making changes may not lead to immediate improvements. This is due to the removal of the harmful impact caused by spammy links through their system.

Feel free to keep engaging with the community (offered in various languages!) and provide your valuable feedback to Google through this form. https://search.google.com/search-console/report-spam
